October 3, 2020 | Exactly as I predicted. Tampa Bay Times endorses Santana in the primaries, then stabs him in the back during the general elections. They are part of the political corruption in Pinellas. The idea was to eliminate me because I had a better chance at beating Gualtieri and exposing his corruption. Santana was a part of that corruption for 30 years and wasn’t going to expose anything.

I have followed him closely and all I have ever heard him say is that he will bring body cams. So what, every candidate running for Sheriff is offering that except Gualtieri. NATIONAL SHERIFF'S ASSOCIATION REMOVES SHERIFF BOB GUALTIERI FROM THEIR WEBPAGE AS SHERIFF OF THE YEAR

July 12, 2020 | Last year I wrote a story about how the National Sheriff’s Association rigged their own internal process in order to name Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri as “Sheriff of the Year”.

Two weeks ago, I sent out a Press Release detailing Sheriff Gualtieri’s massive racist policies which includes hyperlinks to numerous stories, videos and even the police report where Sheriff Bob himself ripped the hair out of a Black woman’s head during a traffic stop while trying to pull her out of her car by her hair.

The NSA was asked why they had appointed such a racist Sheriff as “Sheriff of the Year” to represent ALL Sheriffs in the United States. Did they really want Gualtieri as the “face” of the NSA?

Since that time, numerous reporters, civil rights groups and citizens have been demanding that the National Sheriff’s Association President Dave Mahoney answer that same question or remove Sheriff Gualtieri as the 2019 “Sheriff of the Year”.

As of a few days ago, the National Sheriff’s Association has removed the page detailing Sheriff Gualtieri’s award as “Sheriff of the Year”. There used to be a glowing endorsement of what a great Sheriff Gualtieri was, but now when you click on Gualtieri’s link, it takes you back to the 2018 winner. His award page is gone. Now they need to take the next step and remove Gualtieri as the 2019 Sheriff of the Year. Time for him to be gone and not just his Bio.

This is just the first step in removing a massively racist Sheriff as the “face” of the National Sheriff’s Association and as a representative of every one of the more than 3,000 American county Sheriffs. The NSA needs to WITHDRAW Sheriff Gualtieri as the face of law enforcement in America because we can do a LOT better than that, and we will here in Pinellas by electing James McLynas as the next Pinellas County Sheriff.

June 16, 2020 | The first Sheriff’s debate of the 2020 season is set to kick off tomorrow. All three of the Sheriff’s candidates were invited to attend and two of the three agreed to be there, but not Bob Gualtieri.

Sheriff Gualtieri told this organization that he REFUSED to take part in ANY debate that I was invited to and unless they put on a SEPARATE debate with JUST him, he would not participate. So tomorrow’s debate will feature Gualtieri debating himself for the first hour, then myself and the other candidate having an actual debate for the second hour.

In the 2016 election, Sheriff Gualtieri conspired with the Tampa Bay Times to eliminate the Sheriff’s debate from their debate program. I was given no notice, it was just removed and of course the TBT never explained why, but they endorsed Bob.

Bob Gualtieri does NOT want the people of Pinellas County to hear what I have to say. He does NOT want you to know you have a CHOICE. He does NOT want the people to hear about his massive corruption, wasteful spending, racism and civil rights violations like withholding bond from peaceful protesters.

SHERIFF GUALTIERI IS A COWARD AND TOO MUCH OF A CHICKEN TO FACE HIS POLITICAL OPPONENT! Is that the kind of Sheriff YOU want in office?

POWER WASHING CAMPAIGN SIGNS ON CONCRETE - RUNNING A CLEAN CAMPAIGN

July 26, 2020 | SHERIFF GUALTIERI VIOLATES FLORIDA STATUE AND FLORIDA CAMPAIGN LAW BY HAVING HIS STAFF DESTROY BOTH FREE SPEECH AND CAMPAIGN SPEECH

So, now we file multiple campaign violations against Sheriff Gualtieri. It is a violation of campaign law for a candidate to destroy the campaign actions of another candidate. It is another violation to use county resources to do so. This was on a county owned sewer easement, which Gualtieri had zero legal authority to touch.

I also have two lawyers working on filing the Federal 1st Amendment 1983 Violation against him.

I knew Gualtieri would play dirty. He always does.

SHERIFF GUALTIERI HATES FREE SPEECH

Over at the Pinellas County Courthouse where Gualtieri is in charge of security and violating people’s legal and Constitutional rights, they refuse to acknowledge that the United States Constitution prohibits the government from blocking free speech, the right to protest and the right to redress our government. Without these rights, a government may violate people’s rights, lock people up for little to no reason, engage in mass incarceration and….. well, you get the point.

Would they have taken it off if it said BLM?

So, at the courthouse, they created a “special” area where the Constitution still exists. They call it an “expressive activities area”. Notice how FAR away it is from the courthouse this “expressive area” is so the government workers don’t have to be worried about hearing people “redressing” them?

According to them, the United States Constitution ceases to exist outside this “expressive activities area”and the people of Pinellas County let them get away with this. Sad.

However, I went to this “expressive activities area” and expressed by 1st amendment Constitutionally protected free speech in this exact area, and Sheriff Gualtieri had it removed in less than 24 hours.

So, now it is clear that the Pinellas County government not only thinks that you should ONLY be able to express your 1st Amendment rights inside a tiny little area where they say you can, they will also remove your free speech if they don’t like what it says even if it is in the area where they claim the Constitution still exists.

THIS is Pinellas County tyrannical government in action and the actions of a fascist Sheriff named Robert Gualtieri.

Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, as well as strong regimentation of society and of the economy.

THIS is what I fight against. THIS is why I need to be YOUR next Sheriff. Otherwise, sit down and shut up and don’t say a dam thing unless Sheriff Gualtieri or Pinellas County tells you you can.

July 10, 2020 | The long battle to get Kathryn Varn of the Tampa Bay Times to print the TRUTH and not embellish, twist and slant every story she writes to disparage and attack me and support our corrupt Sheriff Bob continues. I would say she and I are at war.

A war over the right of the people of Pinellas to be told the truth and told what I offer them as their Sheriff so that THEY can make an educated choice, rather than have Varn only tell voters what she personally wants them to hear. That is not reporting.

I have demanded that Chris Tisch remove her from the “police beat” and covering the Sheriff’s race due to her penchant for refusing to publish the comments she asks me for and twisting whatever she can to marginalize me as the TBT endorses Sheriff Bob. Here are her latest questions and my answers. Just look at how her questions are phrased in an already negative manner. Look at how each of her questions are trying to find some fault or negative angle she can publish. She doesn’t ask Bob negative leading questions. Not a single question about what I offer the people of Pinellas, because she and the TBT don’t want the voters to hear about that.

Like every election, Varn tries to make it seem to the voters that every campaign win is about donations and the more someone receives in donations, the more “popular” they are with the voters, when that is absolutely not the case. Dirty money flowing into dirty campaigns by political PACS with an agenda is NOT the measure of a candidate’s popularity with voters.

In the 2016 Sheriff’s race, Gualtieri raised considerably more than I did. I only spent $1,863 on my entire campaign and was able to obtain 101,230 votes here in Pinellas as an unknown. I only spent 0.018, or less than 2 cents for each vote that was cast for me. Gualtieri on the other hand spent 0.112, or over eleven cents per vote, or 522% more per vote than I did. If the same holds true for the 2020 election, Gualtieri will have to raise ten times what I raise in order to buy enough votes to beat me.

Let’s see how much of the truth makes it into the TBT article. My guess is very little. If it doesn’t, we may have to have another round of “tell the TBT to tell the truth”.

Here are my answers. If you edit them, twist them, add your commentary or in any other way marginalize my statements, I will again bring my call for the truth at the TBT to the people.

-Why are you running for sheriff again, and why, this time, as a Democrat? TBT Varn

I am running for Sheriff again to bring the good people of Pinellas Cannabis freedom, body cams, police accountability, and to end policing for profit, mass incarceration, racist policing, police violence and to reallocate over $100,000,000 in wasted tax resources towards drug treatment, helping the homeless and mental wellness programs. Pinellas will not be free from Gualtieri’s corruption and racism until I am Sheriff. Gualtieri is like an old confederate flag that is long overdue to be torn down, and I am the person here to do it.

-I noticed in voter registration records that you changed your party several times: from NPA to Republican in 2012, then from Republican to Democrat in 2016. Can you provide some context on how and why your affiliation has changed over the years? TBT Varn

Unfortunately, politics in Pinellas is a very dirty business with a lot of roadblocks, hurdles and obstacles intentionally put in place to protect the corrupt local power structure in a Constitutional Sheriff’s race that should be totally non-partisan.

-Your opponent Eliseo Santana has raised a lot of money very quickly, primarily through large donations from out-of-state donors and Democratic/liberal PACs. What do you think of that? TBT Varn

Mr. Santana has been thrown into the Sheriff’s race as a spoiler candidate and is backed by many of the very people that want to keep a corrupt Sheriff like Gualtieri in power. They backed a three legged horse they know can’t win against Gualtieri and funneled a lot of PAC money at him to try and take me out because they know I can beat Gualtieri on my strong platform positions and what I offer the people of Pinellas. They figure it will be more cost effective to throw a lot of dirty money at Santana to try and win a democratic primary where 436,495 of the 685,104 registered Pinellas voters are blocked from voting and providing their input.

-I’ve noticed some of the donations your campaign received aren’t even numbers, as is typically the case with individual contributions. For example, your P1 report has several contributions of $47.92 and $23.97. I’m hoping you can shed some light on why that’s the case — is it something to do with the online donation system? TBT Varn

Kathryn, unlike the other candidates, every single one of my donors is a real person who knows me, knows what I stand for and wants to take part in a historical change of ending everything that is wrong with the local police industry with one single vote by backing a candidate from outside that corrupt and violent culture and they give whatever they can afford to give to support me. They want to bring freedom to Pinellas and they know that voting for me will bring that freedom and every penny helps.

I am looking to post signs all across Pinellas county and that will take about $20,000. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Anybody that donates more than $50 will have a sign delivered to their house. Anybody that donates $150 will have a large sign delivered to their home or business. Any amount helps! Campaign signs cost about $5-$7 each, so you can see it takes quite a bit to spread the word.

August 10, 2020 | Sheriff’s Candidate Eliseo Santana was inserted into the Sheriff’s race just three months after obtaining only 14% of the vote in March of 2020 when he ran for Clearwater City Council. He was soundly defeated when he ran for School Board too. Mr. Santana is collecting a pension from the Sheriff’s office and is just looking for another taxpayer funded paycheck to stack on top of his already generous $75,000 lifetime pension from the PCSO.

However, Santana did not just pick the Sheriff’s race to enter.

August 3, 2020 | Clean tagging is simply washing your artwork onto dirty concrete. It is perfectly legal, much more environmentally friendly and even much nicer looking than the cheap looking plastic signs that will pile up in the dump directly after the election.

THE BLACKBALLING AND CENSORING OF CANDIDATE MCLYNAS CONTINUES in 2020

July 9, 2020 | In the 2016 election, the Tampa Bay Times refused to include Candidate for Sheriff James McLynas in most of their articles. Even though legalized medical marijuana was THE largest campaign issue that election, the TBT refused to mention to the public that one of McLynas’ campaign positions was to end all marijuana enforcement. They are supposed to provide equal time to all candidates and inform the voters about who is running and what they offer, but not James McLynas. They are too afraid of him winning if the people of Pinellas find out what he is offering as their sheriff. Whenever the TBT would include McLynas, it was never without some disparaging remark or marginalizing comment.
Sheriff Gualtieri did his part to silence McLynas in the 2016 election too

by having him falsely arrested on four fabricated charges to discredit him and try and frighten him from proceeding with an implied threat of doing even worse to him. Of course all of the charges were dropped because they were all lies by PCSO deputies and proven so in court. McLynas didn’t back down.
Then there was the Television news coverage. Whenever the election for Sheriff was discussed, McLynas was literally “blacked out” as a black outline, because the media refused to show his face, even though they had numerous photos of him on file. Perhaps they didn’t want him to get the “hair vote” since Bob is bald.
The powers that be just do NOT want the voters to hear what McLynas offers and the freedom he represents from a repressive police state local government.
NOW, the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections has joined the McLynas blackballing and exposure boycott.
For decades, the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections has posted information about the candidates (that they themselves submit) on the PCSE website, but not THIS year. This year the Supervisor of Elections has removed ALL “bios” from the PCSE page in order to prevent and block Sheriff’s candidate James McLynas from being permitted to have his submitted text posted informing voters of who he is in order to SILENCE and blackball Mr. McLynas.
When Mr. McLynas submitted the information he wanted to pass along to voters to help them understand who is, what he stands for and inform voters so they could make an informed choice, the Supervisor of elections returned his information with the areas that they refused to publish highlighted. Every single word was highlighted. (you can see the email exchange at the below link)
When McLynas demanded the law, statute, case cite or constitutional amendment that granted the Supervisor of Elections the power or authority to censor McLynas on a government website, Julie Marcus refused to respond. After three requests over three weeks, the PCSE finally responded. The PCSE did not provide any case law, statute of constitutional amendment that granted them the authority to censor McLynas’ free speech. Instead, after consulting with their lawyer, they responded by stating that they would not publish ANYBODY’S information on the PCSE website just so that they could silence Mr. McLynas.
Silenced Just so they could keep the people of Pinellas County from hearing about what he offers as their Sheriff. Just so that voters would not know that they have been offered a chance at FREEDOM.
The Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections works for Pinellas County, just like Sheriff Gualtieri does. They are one and the same. Interesting that the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections would take the position that they would rather not inform the voters about ANY candidates, then allow them to know about McLynas for Sheriff. Keeping the voters in the dark, because we can’t have them making informed decisions here in Pinellas.
This is our dirty county. This is dirty politics and business as usual in Pinellas. And this is why we cannot have nice things like freedom and government accountability.

BREAKING NEWS: James McLynas FIRST to officially qualify for Pinellas Sheriff's race!

June 10, 2020 | In 2016, Sheriff Gualtieri tried to keep me out of the Sheriff’s race by lying, filing false charges and having me arrested. I beat his ass, got the charges all dismissed, came back and ran obtaining over 100,000 votes.

This year, he made election campaigning a “non-essential” activity, made collecting petition signatures to get on the ballot an arrestable offense and prohibited 10 or more people from gathering or going door to door.

OK FOLKS, THE HARD WORK IS DONE

June 10, 2020 | Now the REALLY hard work begins. Fighting against Gualtieri’s attempts to use his badge to keep me from qualifying was tough. Coming up with the $10,303.56 for the absurd “fee” to be on the ballot was difficult. However, the REAL hard work of teaching every single Pinellas County voter that THEY have a REAL choice for Sheriff is now the task at hand.
